Description

Shi-moa is a tumbler that incorporates the traditional skills of two cities in Japan. The metalworking technology of Tsubame City in Niigata Prefecture and Yamanaka-nuri in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture both have a 400-year history. When these two traditions come together, the result is a gem that combines old-world tradition with modern stylishness.

Oboro Aka & Kuro

The texture of the uneven surface is unprecedented in feel, yet natural and comfortable in the hand. The high-quality texture that comes through every time you hold it in your hand makes you feel even more graceful. The craftsmen who put their skills into this gem have also created a feel that is not apparent from the outside. The double-layer construction prevents condensation from forming even when filled with ice, keeping it warm and cold for a long time.

Production Process

After the base coat is applied, raw lacquer is applied, and before it dries, it is sprinkled with dry lacquer powder (finely ground lacquer). The process is repeated twice to make the unevenness of the surface more distinct. After that, tame-urushi lacquer is applied, and the surface is carefully polished with sandpaper and wiped. The process is repeated three times to bring out the color and luster. The combined skills of these three craftsmen have created a unique texture that has never been seen before.
